Was out for the weekend, but back in time just as my little Supergirl tale is about to be released. Tomorrow to be exact! The DC Infinite Crisis Christmas Special, with ten snazzy pages by yours truly! I could definitely get used to drawing DC's resident bad girl. The story itself was written by Joe Kelley, and colored by the delictable JJ Kirby. What do you guys think? I really dug drawing the little ditty... Sketchbook Diaries take 1...

So here is a little peek into my personal sketchbook. As an artist I almost always have my little Moleskin with me. It's a great distraction for trying out new places and not feeling too out of place. Mainly because I always end up in some place where no one knows me, bars, coffee shops, bookstores, whatever... It's also a great ice breaker and has enabled to meet a lot of really cool people, and along the way some quite lovely ladies, lol! It's funny because most of the time people get really excited to actually see the stuff inside. "You draw like those japanese cartoons!", I hear alot. I find that amusing, I usually will offer to do a likeness of them at that point, just to give them something to take with them.

The above piece I drew while waiting to go on at my local karaoke spot. A jack on the rocks, and a little time to kill. I sat there and realized that like it says on the piece, it was,"time for change". It's so true. And since then I kinda took a new outlook on life. To stop feeling sorry for myself, and to move on. To take life by the horns and pave a new path. The drawing itself was inspired by alot of the cool, carefree people I've met lately. Ladies with tattoos, mrowrrr, lol! Oh and bangs! Ha ha! No but seriously, it was the carefreeness of the crowd that I wanted to capture. The feeling of being able to take off the shackles of the past, and look towards the future, with unlimited hope! The actual drawing maybe took me about twenty minutes. But, in those twenty minutes, and that shot of whiskey, alot of self discovery was made.

Made it out to ol Los Angelees today. Ryan Benjamin and I ventured out to hollywood, to attend the Shrine comic book show. Overheard that shows been going for like 30 years? That's pretty kewl. Either way it was a fun day. Got to see some familiar faces, and meet some new ones. Did some sketches. Above is a Zattanna I did for one fan. I get alot of requests for that character, she's a fun one to doodle. Plus any excuse for me to draw bangs is a good time. Just did it mostly with markers. Couple others came out as well, Whilche Portacio, the ever so succulent Dustin Nguyen, Christos N Gage, Adam Archer, and I think Howard Chaykin was up towards the front. Of course this whole shennanigan was coordinated by the blingey Eddie Choi! Eddie, I love you! Aside from that, home now...bored...tired...and need of my buddy jack...word...

I can't get over how much I love the way Rich(friend) inks my stuff. He adds such an unique artistic flari to it, that's pretty much uncomparable. It's not often that you can have an inker who is not only that, but also an amazing artist. Rich has definitly raised his game as of late, plus I love the way he inks hair. It's so scent sexxxy, it drives me wild! Scent sexxy? That's a new one. No but seriously I'm also excited cause I got ol' Richey inking my covers to my new book. Again some sexxy hair done on it. Sweet. As to Skye Runner, I'll be going into it a bit later as the book will be wrapping itself up very soon. Threw some interesting little guest stars in the last issue. Hopefully It's not the end of the series, rather the begining. Hugs, kisses, million dollar wishes...

So I kinda wanted to go back and kinda let you all know how I first became interested in comics. The day my geekdom was born. Not that we're all geeks. Although being a geek is kinda cool nowadays. So yeah, I'm a geek. Sweet. Anyways...it all began waaay back when I was about 4 or 5 years old. My Mom used to make daily runs to the local 7-11, and since leaving kids at the age of 4 or 5 home alone is frowned upon I was always with her. So, I remember one day as I was walking around the aisles, yes I was a very independent young lad, my eyes were caught by a glimpse of magic. Spider-man. I remember begging for it and Mom bein' the swank lady she is happily obliged. Thus an infatuation was born! It wouldn't be till some ten years later that another type of magazine would catch my eye (wink, wink). Comics were instantly engraved on my soul. It was soon thereafter that I decided that growing up and being a tree was no longer for me. Comic book artist. Would I some day be able to create the majesty I so enjoyed? Up till then about the only thing I drew was Snoopy, so Spider-man was a welcome change. So I started a life long quest. A life of doing nothing but drawing (except for ten years later when that other kinda magazine came along, cause well, ya know). I'll come back to this topic in later posts and fill in some of the high points of my geekdom. Above is a updated look i did awhile back of my very first book, WAX. The piece was actually inked by fellow artist JJ Kirby, and colored by the deceptively handsome Cris Walker. It was done for an animation pitch from back when I used to harrass tv networks. Like I said, more tales to come...

Co-mission madness...

Wanted to kinda come clean on some fronts here. First off please know this...I absolutely cherish each and every one of my fans! Period! Without you fans I would be an even thinner boy than I am now. With that said I gotta come clean and let you know to all of you who are waiting on commisions, that I am truly sorry. Above is an example of a past commision done for one great fan. And I'm working on delivering equal amounts of passion towards the pieces that I owe some of you. I have no excuse, and like I said i really do apologize for my flakiness. Like I said in a previous post I am working on getting them all done and out by December's end. Also a big apology to art dealer extroidanaire, Mark Hay. I don't know how, but I'll make it up to you...seriously.

As to the piece above...I believe it was a commision requested after I had done a similar looking Spidey piece. It's pretty big, 22"17" I believe. I did most of it with brush, and then some pigma pens on the fine detail. Finished her off with some marker. That's wierd, wonder I referred to the piece as a her? Hmmm, I'll have to think about that one...

Was surfing the web and came across this thing from the 80's. The Fonz doing one of the most ridiculous psa's ever! I know for mine if someone comes and tries to grab me I'm definitely doing "The Honk"! HOOOOOOOOOONNNNKKKKK! Even funnier is the fact that this was obviously done sometime after old arthur fonzirelli's fame had died down. This looks more around the Ricky Schroeder era to me. Should've had ol' Silver Spoons pushing this one. Or at least maybe that Small Wonder chickie. Either way, hope it makes ya laugh...word...

Single issues...

So here I is...I wanted to kinda explain what tha hell has happened to me over the past year. Why? Well, think of it as a little therapy on my end. As most of you know I am, was, a married man. For quite some time actually. 11 years to be exact. Well somewhere towards the begining of this year things started to kinda fall apart. And well, to make a long story short... I am now a single man. Most of you who knew me and my, as I really see it now more than ever, better half, know that I adored her. Thus I kinda lost my head for a bit. Luckily for me though, having one of the best wives has translated to me now having perhaps the best ex-wife. If that makes any sense? Seriously, we've managed to become quite good friends. I mean, she just bought me tickets to The Faint. How effin sweet is that? Wee hoo!!! No, but really, I see her now, and I am proud of her, she really is amazing. I envy her ability to hold crap together. But, I'm on the road myself to getting back on all of my cylinders.

So...you may be asking yourself, why Ale' do you need your own blog? Well, over the next few weeks, I think, my next long term project will be being announced and I want to really focus on making it my best work to date. And, I also really wanted to focus alot of my newfound extra time(single now, remember) on creating a blogspot that really showcases my love for not only comics, but life as well. So I'll be inviting some of my other comic book friends to come on for guest spots. So...again you ask yourself...what exactly can we expect from an Ale' run blog? Will it all just be about him talking about his hair? Or maybe bragging to no end how sweet his cowboy boots are? Eh, well probably not, lol! But I do wanna capture alot of the fun that I used to pull off on the Gelatometti blog, so expect some new features over here. Here is a short list of what I have in store...

Art Throwdown: It's kind of a take on my old Iron Chef challenges but with a twist. For this challenge I'll be bringing some of my homies over here for a freestyle one hour art battle. So instead of having a guidline, the artist can basically do whatever tickles thier fancy. I already got some sweet talent lined up so keep an eye out!

Uncle Ale's Art Corner: Silly name, I know, but this one'll be fun. Not only will I be giving some insight to the various thought processes which go into creating comics, but I also got some big name talents who will be giving some of what they think goes into making some sweet ass comics. Look not only for artists, but also for writers, colorists, and inkers!

Sketchbook Diary: This one is probably the most personal feature I'll be having on here. I'll be giving you a sneek peek into my personal sketchbook. Which I take with me everywhere. From bars, to coffee shops, to the DMV, I almost always have this little guy with me, and I'll be sharing some of my inner thoughts, and feelings along with each sketch.
